It depends on where the DVD was bought.
If bought over seas, our DVD's are the wrong format.
Also, some DVD's are defective, though most players will still read them.
You can see the defect by looking on the data side and see a gassy or blurred
portion on the CD.

technician how a DVD player can recognize and play all CD's but not one DVD.
