Max, you read my mind.
I actually tried shorting the 200 volt line after turn off with no effect. I
looked at Q5004 as a possible culprit too with no success. The strange thing
is if I pull the plug as opposed to turning it off the spot goes away.
Dunno....anyone???

holding its charge - such as C5003 on 200V supply line. Good luck.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies but I know what afterglow is.
Adjusting G2 has no effect and if the chassis is swapped then the
problem stays with the chassis and not the tube.
This started happening about a week ago according to my customer..

This is normal (according to Thomson/RCA) You have very good emission in
the tube
At worst you may need to decrease the G2 control

Hi all,
Have a 27" ctc177 with a spot in the middle of the screen that slowly
dissipates after after the set is turned off. Picture is normal when
turned on.
I dont see a spot killer circuit anywhere in this set and wonder if
anyone else has come across this before?.
BTW, if the power plug is pulled as opposed to turning set off from the
control panel then there is no spot in the screen.
