check crt pins and socket for tarnish, also abl circuit see below Symptom: The unit will intermittently shutdown and must be unplugged before it will turn on again. Causes: . Faulty components in the ABL circuit cause increased beam current to trigger shutdown circuit. . Arcing at CRT connector and/or spark gap causes shutdown. Remedy: . Troubleshoot ABL circuit and check components listed below. Check C524 and R517. . Clean CRT pins and/or replace CRT socket connector (part number TJSC01800) Troubleshooting Tips . Check the ABL circuit to confirm if it is the cause of the problem. 1. Apply a full white field or large window pattern with high white. 2. Lift Diode D837 to disable140V line short protect feedback circuit to MPU SOS pin. 3. Short pin 3 of flyback T551 to ground. Observe any change in white level. If there is no change in brightness the ABL circuit is faulty. Check components: C524, R517, D509, D510, R514, R515, R516 ( and C525 on HX series models) If the white level increases, then ABL is OK. Troubleshoot other protection circuits. For HX series: check D837, D835, D841, D401, D409, D894, IC2505 For SX series: check D837, D835, D841, IC101, R246. . Other causes for intermittent shutdown are arcing and/or oxidation of the CRT connection pins. Remove the CRT drive board and clean the CRT pins with a wire brush or steel wool. In addition, check the spark gap on the CRT socket. Remove the 2 focus wires (orange and white cable) by pulling the tab, then pull the 2 side clips from the socket cover and inspect the spark gaps. If they appear abnormal, replace the CRT socket.
