The ' A ' version requires lower drive current to get it to fully turn on. If 
you scope the regulator you have in there now you will see that the 
oscillation is choked and starves off. Hard to believe, but I have been there 
already. 
This also true of the Panasonic/Quasar sets that use STK730-020A. Got to have 
the A or it will run too hot and fail.
