Larry, is the B+ really too high??
Thomson tech support says that some of these can be
at 175vdc at standby.
If it's a shutdown problem, the splitter is the
prime culprit.
I have also has bad crt's to cause it, so just
pulling the input to the splitter is not all
conclusive.
If pulling the splitter DOES allow the set to stay
on(sound only), then you need to pull the crt anode
feeds one at a time.
I replaced a splitter once, and then found the bad
crt.
Buddy, I'm sorry, I'm out of ideas after this.
