I have a Viewsonic made in 1998, G810 model, 21VS001 chassis with
similar symptoms.  The picture would pulsate as well, but no squealing
noise.  It looked like the input AC was going up and down.  I wonder how
similar our 2 chassis' are.  I had to totally dissemble the monitor and
reassemble it with the chassis hanging off and I forgot to connect the
picture tube DAG to ground.  Now the HV comes up and the monitor goes
into shutdown immediately.  Do I have 2 problems now, or is the flyback
bad like yours?
