There are several brands and models that have no adjust on CRT board or
mainboard. Zenith is a good brand for doing that. And some of those older
sets don't even have service menus. You will see it again. There are several
Zenith chassis that a IC goes bad causes no grayscale. You think it is a bad
tube. If your Emerson has a service menu that should be how to adjust yours.
Here is the procedure for some around that time frame: Using the original
remote, (You got that right), There is a small hole in the cover under the
last row of buttons. Insert a paper clip size wire.
The TV will display the service menu. Items 1 through 7 are adjustments and
the
8 key will exit and save adjustments. On your set though I would suspect the
CRT is just too weak to get a good gray scale. Seen it many times on
Emerson.

Gentlemen, this may be one of those stupid questions, how do you adjust the
RGB drive levels on CRT. There are no pots on CRT board. Only color, tint
and brightness on main board. Any help would be appreciated.
