Kevin,

Windows 2000 is very similar to XP and is extremely stable
(10x more stable than 98). I have been using it for a couple
years and with dozens of programs installed it works fine.

XP is also stable, but eats up lots of memory

With 98 the more programs I installed the more problems I
had. For many people 98 needs to be completely reinstalled
every few months for it to work smoothly.
