What version of Mozilla are you using? If you are using Mozilla older 
than version 1.7 you should upgrade to 1.73. If you are using Firefox & 
Thunderbird, you should upgrade to Firefox 1.0 and Thunderbird 0.9. 
Thunderbird 1.0 coming in December.

Just guessing that you have a bug in the software causing your problem. 
Also check the preferences for signature file settings.
There are plenty of Mozilla user forums which you can join and ask other 
users for help. Just go to www.mozilla.org
