FYI... We need one student from each sub-team to help prepare for a design
review at GE.

This is a great opportunity to experience what it's like to be an engineer in
the "hot seat", and get some ideas to help improve our robot design and
reliability. We will complete preparation for the review on Saturday.

Thanks,
Adam

Everyone

The design review is all set. Lance Miller (Director of Engineering) has made
all the arrangements for the robot design review.

GE design review panel
1) Ron Downs (Manufacturing Shop Operations Manager) - Manufacturing/Assembly
2) Benjamin Samuels (Electrical Engineer) - Electrical Engineering
3) Steve Carlson (Electrical Engineer) - Electrical Engineering
4) Eric Johnson (Air Systems Engineer) - Mechanical Engineering
5) Craig Lins (Air Systems and Testing Engineering Supervisor) - Test
Engineering
6) Garrett Geiseman (Quality Assurance Engineering/Control) - Quality
7) Lance Miller (Director of Engineering) - Engineering

This design review has generated a lot of interest in all of engineering; more
than any poster, email or any other form of robotics propaganda I have tried to
promote here. GE Aviation has always been eager to help the robotics team but,
because of strict company rules not allowing monetary contributions to an
individual team, never had a good way to help out.

Now on the team side, I am not sure if I have gotten the word out properly to
the team. I sent out a broadcast message to the team last Friday, but I fear
that the message did not get out somehow since I have not heard back from
anyone on the team (besides Adam) about it. (There have been some problems here
lately with both internal and external emails going out to large groups.)
Attached is the original message.
<<Robot Design Review at GE Aviation>> In earlier emails, I was sending design
review updates to Adam (he's the
boss) and Matt (he's in charge of the robot CAD drawings). This update I am
spreading the news to a bit wider audience to ensure that others are aware of
what is going on.

My concerns are (1) no one else has heard about this, (2) we have three working
days to prepare for this, and (3) I do not wish to take focus away from actual
design and construction of the main robot and the mini-bot.

As far as I am concerned at this point, there is no turning back. Too much
effort has been put in by GE and too much excitement has been generated for me
to tell them to postpone or cancel the review. We need to put something
together, even if it is not our best, and present our robot design.

Please let me know what you think. You can email, phone call, or just wait for
tonight's meeting (I will be there).

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you.

Congratulations, and thank you. You have been selected to represent your
functional area in the GE hosted design review for the Rockford Robotics 2011
robot. The review is planned for next Monday (Feb 7th)
4-6pm. The Video conference room is booked for this event however I
expanded the review panel size and I am planning to move this to a larger room
(T&D if available). I will update you when booked. Please take the
opportunity to read the background and requirements information links provided
below prior to the meeting. I have asked Gabe Cotto to provide us with the
Robotics team's design package when it becomes available.

Thanks again for volunteering your time to help the Rockford Robotics team.

Lance

Subject: Invitation to participate in the GE Rockford hosted
design review for the Rockford Robotics 2011

I am soliciting volunteers who would like to help the local Rockford Robotics
team review their Robot design for 2011. They are currently in the detail
design phase of the project and would like our help conducting a design review.
The robot must be completely built and shipped on Tuesday, February 22.

The plan is for the Rockford Robotics team to provide us with detail robot
requirements, CTQ's and preliminary design documentation a few days before the
review. The review will occur on Monday Feb 8th from 4-6pm in our video
conference room.

If you are interested send me an e-mail. I will work with the senior staff to
select approximately 5 review panel members representing multiple disciplines
with a primary focus on engineering, quality, and manufacturing disciplines.

Elliott, Pat, Ron, Scott, et. all, Please forward or speak to anyone I may have
missed in your areas that you feel may be interested in helping. I would like
several people focused on scrutinizing the robot design from a
manufacturability, quality, and assembly perspective.
