Never had an issue with either. But, yes, I did throw out that batch of
e-matches once. Actually, I lit them all at once in a blaze of glory.
The problem was the initiator was not coated so it would crack and you'd
lose the pyrogen.
Where it gets really scary is in the CD3's since you pot the e-match and if
that glue gets on there and you decide to wipe it off, you
wipe off the tip and then the whole thing is garbage and you have to drill
it out and re-glue the damn thing.

first came out. I tested some, and found that over half did not fire. The
bridge wire would burn out without setting off the pyrogen coating. I know

In the mean-time, I make my own pyrogen-free devices by wrapping fine
nichrome around lead wire – more like making a motor initiator, but without
the pyrogen. This works very reliably for setting of BP deployment charges
using an altimeter.
But I have an application with a tether device where a smaller e-match
form factor would work better. I see MJG is still selling the Firewire.
What are people’s recent experiences with this device?
