I bought a box of the MJG (non-regulated) Firewire Initiators when they
first came out. I tested some, and found that over half did not fire. The
bridge wire would burn out without setting off the pyrogen coating. I know
they had some issues with the first batches, but I have not purchased any
since that early batch.
In the mean-time, I make my own pyrogen-free devices by wrapping fine
nichrome around lead wire - more like making a motor initiator, but without
the pyrogen. This works very reliably for setting of BP deployment charges
using an altimeter.
But I have an application with a tether device where a smaller e-match form
factor would work better. I see MJG is still selling the Firewire. What
are people's recent experiences with this device?
