well for those of you that didn't make eureka here is what happened to me.
(yes denis i am going to quote my exact message to you.)
so left benton around 8:30 friday morning. fueled up, took the dogs to the
vet to kennel, and left. took the interstate from benton to conway, about 1
hour of driving. got on to highway 65 in conway and went on. we stopped in
marshal for some pizza at pizza hut, i checked under the bus to see how the
"oil cooler leak" was. (you'll understand the quotes later on) two or three
minor drops under the bus nothing horrible. checked the oil just a smiggin
below the full line. continued on my journey. stopped to get gas in
harrison, ar. averaged about 21 mpg. checked under the bus at the "oil
cooler leak" one drop nothing bad went on. turn on to 62 from 65 start up
the first big hill had to down shift to make it up the hill (lots of down
shifting on 62 and 65. start up the hill :sniff: :sniff: what's that smell
oh shit i can't see behind me due to the smoke. ah crap the "oil cooler
leak" has finally finished itself off. crap pull over as far over as i can
get which means the left side of the bus is still in the road. a preacher
guy stops to help i start it up he says oil is "gushing" from underneath. he
encourages me to drive the 1000 feet over the hill it will take to get on to
a huge shoulder area. i hesitate well a big ford econoline van comes flying
by almost killing hershey and diana who is inside of hershey that told me i
better risk the motor and drive it the thousand feet. get onto the big
shoulder. take the rear apron off take the rear most peice of tin off. oil
is all over the back side of the pushrod tubes i think man, this "oil cooler
leak" is pretty bad for there to be oil on the back side of the pushrod
tubes and not the front side. well about that time i hear a vw horn and look
over to see a vanagon comming by. i flag them over the guy was like can i
help i was like yea (and dripping wet because it was raining at the time.
well we looked we tinkered finally i said start it up let's see what is
wrong. he fired it up and oil shot out of one of the hoses for the full flow
filter. evidently the hose was rubbing against the exhaust pipe that comes
out of the head right where the heat exchanger hooks up. so i call my dad
who is already in eureka springs and tell him my situation and so he drives
over with a nipple and some hose clamps i thank the vanagon guy for stopping
told him where dad was and thanked him. he said as he pulled away his wife
was asking if they should give me a ride and he looked in the rearview
mirror and saw me popping the top and said nope i think they are preparred
for the long haul. so the "oil cooler leak" wasn't that it was the full
flow. well here is where the funny part comes in:
shortly after the vanagon guy leaves i call andy because i am bored, no
answer it is 1ish and andy is probably sleeping because he works 3rd shift.
ok so next on my list i call denis. hear is the following sequence of
events:
denis' answering service:"hi this is denis and jan we can't come to the
phone right now so leave a message after the tone"
me: "yo denis, what's up i'm on the side of the road and thought i would
call and say hi so hi, by"
