Probably not a cause of the problem:  but you mentioned "bad gas."  You are
using premium fuel aren't you.  That VW engine needs 91 or more octane.

Subject: [tcb] Just some brain picking.

After I drive my '68 and turn him off, I hear a bloop-bloop noise coming from
the engine compartment.  I would say it sounds similar to slow percolation.  It
will go on for a couple of minutes.  This Bus seems to run perfect except the
idle is probably too low but I haven't had a chance to bring it by my mechanic
to confirm this.  What could the noise be?  Is it connected to the idle being
too low?  Should I be concerned?

At times when a Bus isn't running well then the possibility of "bad gas" is
brought up.  How often is "bad gas" the problem?  And does "bad gad" just mean
water in the gas?  And does "bad gas" have a stronger negative effect on an air
cooled engine over a more modern water cooled engine?

Thanks for thinking,

Julie
