Julie should have an adjustable tilt.

You don't lower the bus , just the height of the tilt.

I am an old lady. I don't lower my VWs. And I want quiet exhausts.
It is the young guys or the guys who still want to be young guys driving around
with lowered, loud VWs.

Well, yes, it the fault of the garage: I had to put in an 8'
door to clear the westy rack on my SO-42. But I'm not sure that the tilt on a
stock height DC would clear an 8' door. It would be close.

              Okey dokey. Thanks.

As for any height issue I figure the garage is the one with the
problem, not the DC, but I don't see things logically.

All the old lens are crazed and cracked. The new clear lens
(which is the correct one, not the amber) look good. Let me know what you
need. Or shoot a picture of what you have.

I know I have both metal housings. I think I need at least one
bulb holder and I need 2 lens. But I will inspect this more carefully to be
sure. I don't really know this for sure but I am thinking the new lenses don't
look as awesome as the old ones especially on an old looking VW but I could be
wrong.

Julie: Been there and done that with the "tilt." That's
what the canopy over the bed is called. There is a guy somewhere on the west
coast that is repoping the hoops (the things that hold the tilt up) and there
is a firm somewhere on the west coast that is repoping the tilt. My memory
says that the hoops are about $1,000 and the tilt is about $2,000. Looked on
the Samba trying to find them and couldn't.  Have their names around somewhere;
but if you call Ronnie at Bustorations or one of your friends at WW they should
be able to give you the contact info.

As to actually having a tilt: Well, they are not very
practical if you have an original type one. It's only canvas and it will fade,
wear and get mildew from exposure to the elements. It also sticks up about
15"-18" above the roof line and makes driving into low clearances, such as a
garage very difficult. When I had mine I would have to take it all off,
including the hoops to put it in the garage and then reinstall all of it to
take it out for a show. Some owners have built a canopy that is just at the
roof height of the bus and made the material out of some sort of vinyl that is
weather proof. Not original at all but looks good and is practical.

As to the bullet turn signals: what parts do you need? I
have one complete one for the drivers side and one other bulb holder. Also
several of the metal housings for both sides. Reproduction lens are available
from WW at a reasonable price. Basically I have enough for two complete
bullets for each side except for the lens. That of course does not include the
part that is actually a part of the bus nose. I'll sell them to you at a fair
price; but first I need to know what you need.

I think Sonne (my '60 Doublecab) is going to be getting some
loving.

I know nothing about the hoops and canvas so if there is
anybody out there that has dealt with them, please can I pick your brain? Like
who makes the best ones out there? Are they a pain to take on and off? How
awkward are they to drive with? I am thinking I want one which looks amazing
but I also want one that can survive whatever Mother Nature can throw at it
while out on an extended road trip so maybe I need two - a cool one and one
that can survive a hurricane? It would be amazing if there was one designed
that could be used at different heights. I imagine it is easier to drive when
the canvas is the same height as the roof but then way better looking and much
more spacious when the canvas is higher than the roof. If I have to choose one
it will be higher.

And when a VW has a bad ass patina on it, is there a way to
preserve it so rust doesn't grow but yet not give it a shiny look?

Anyone have some bullet turn signals and little round tail
lights for sale?

                  Thanks for any advice

                  Julie
