Neil
When I went to buy my phone, by simply walking into the Vodafone shop, they
could only offer me one phone, they said, which could run Talks. I’ve taken
that, by reading this list, to mean that I was offered the only Simbion phone
they had in stock. It seemed that was my only choice.
I know I could, in a fantasy, have simply gone for Ifone and Voiceover, but
could I have bought something between the two, and run Talks, please?
I’m happy with my phone, except that it was a recon’, and I’m concerned that it
might not have a great life span.  It doesn’t do wifi, but I don’t much mind;
only really want a phone, and to play books and music. Sat’ nav’ would be
great, but not essential. So, I’m not that bothered, but it would have been
nice to actually choose a phone, rather than only have one option.

Alex,

you were only left with nothing if you made the personal choice to stick with
Symbian...

Amy,

Wayfinder Access offered full point to point navigation, an around you look
mode, a nearby mode, the ability to do other GPS functions using the speech
software on your phone.

with OVI you can do point to point, but you cannot learn about what is around
you as you travel using nearby or around you views.

I would say that where 100% represented a perfect GPS solution for the blind,
something like Sendero GPS or Mobile Geo represents say a 90% solution, maybe
more. whereas Wayfinder Access was say 40% there, with OVI and speech services
from Nuance or Code Factory being only 20 - 25% there.

those around you or nearby views gave a person a lot of info and were essential
to public transport usage.

Andy,

OVI Maps is not an alternative to Access in terms of a truly accessible GPS
program, it is though a workable solution to an extent.

the issue behind whether or not you'll have to pay for voice guidance is
dependant on phone model and version of FW that you are running on that phone.

thanks.

Hi all

I understand that I can use OVI maps as a gps solution to Access, on my N82,
but have also discovered that there is a charge from Nokia to use the speech
component of the software, so will Ovi maps work just with TALKS, as in
pedestrian mode under Access, or will I need to pay for the Nokia voicing
service? -
