Hi Jackie. Yes, that's right, Human Ware have announced an upgrade for the Trekker Pro but they have discontinued it and will no longer sell it as from now apart from clearing the stock they have and that only amounts to units in single figures. I spoke to them on the phone twice this week and that's the info I received. I can't understand why such a company who developed such a high spec product such as the Trekker can't turn their minds to developing an app for mobiles that is totally accessible and compatible with Talks. A huge gap in the market is developing and surely someone will fill it. I guess the financial situation though has hit research and development pretty hard. Whatever the case, things are getting more difficult in as much as it is now hard to find a reliable and accurate and accessible GPS system we can use via the mobile and Mobiles are becoming more difficult to access with the popularity of touch screens. With the appearance of the touch screen IPad, soon pcs and laptops will be keyboard free and only touch screen., more marginalisation I'm afraid. Hi WalterMy understanding is that there is an imminent update for Trekker Pro, but Idon't know any more than that. There is Mobile Geo, but you need Mobile Speak for that, and Geo doesn't rununder the Symbian platform, so more pennies if you go down that avenue I'm afraid. I am interested in acquiring an accessible portable GPS system. Firstly Wayfinder hits the dust and now The Trekker Pro has followed. My question is; is there another GPS system with the features of Trekker oreven of Wayfinder that is accessible and works well with talks. The trekker breeze is of no use to me as you have to walk or drive the rout first and inany case it, as is the Trekker Pro is a stand alone unit. I need a routfinder and not a rout reminder. The Captain system is apparently a waste ofspace never mind money and although there seems to be a lot of talk on the net about blind friendly GPS, there doesn't seem to be anything concrete. I have the 6210 navigator but the access to the GPS is impossible and I would imagine if it was accessible, it wouldn't give turn by turninstructions. I might be wrong but it seems nokia maps are strictly for the sighted. If anyone has any constructive suggestions I would be grateful. Iread a news article on the BBC web site about a test being carried out in Italy using Talks and GPS but it didn't seem very good as I think it meantif you had trouble you could connect to a call centre and the operator wouldgive you a turn by turn guide in real time, sounds rather dangerous to me when the blind person should be giving their full attention to theirmobility rather than listening to someone on the phone trying to guide themand on a busy city street it would be impossible to hear or understand theoperator. It would seem to me things are taking a backwards step. Walter. No virus found in this incoming message.
