CITY OF TALLAHASSEE NEWS RELEASE

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Disaster Threatens, Will You Be Prepared?

Monthly Tabletop Exercises Offered

Emergencies and natural disasters can occur anywhere at any time. Over the
past couple of years, we have seen wildfires alter the landscape in
Colorado and earthquakes with their accompanying tsunamis devastate Japan
and other Pacific nations. Closer to home, we experienced an unprecedented
rash of more than 300 tornados, which wiped down swaths of civilization
throughout the southeastern United States. Being prepared for events like
these is the basis for the ongoing Formidable Footprint Neighborhood
Tabletop Exercises.

Over the next three months, the City of Tallahassee will be offering
monthly tabletop exercises for area citizens on the last Saturday of the
month. These training sessions are free.

The first exercise on January 26 will focus on wildfires. The second
exercise on February 23 will focus on tornados, and the third exercise on
March 30 will focus on earthquakes. Each training will be held from 9 a.m.
to noon at the Tallahassee Fire Department Training Center, located at 2964
Municipal Way (corner of Municipal Way and Appleyard Drive).

The purpose of the tabletop exercises is to provide an opportunity for
community, faith and neighborhood based organizations, along with
governmental agencies, to assess their capabilities to prepare for, respond
to and recover from a variety of natural disasters.

During the exercises, participants will gain a thorough understanding of
how prepared their organization, agency or neighborhood is for a disaster
and will establish a concept of operations that will guide them through the
process of responding to meet the disaster caused needs of community
residents.

Working together as a team, participants will be able to assess their
individual and organization's preparedness and response capabilities while
learning the dynamics of the event.

To take part in the exercises, everyone participating must register
individually at www.formidablefootprint.org. You can choose to participate
in one, two or all the upcoming monthly trainings.

The City of Tallahassee maintains a comprehensive Emergency Management
operation, and members of the City's Emergency Management Team receive
extensive training, via courses offered by FEMA, the Florida Division of
Emergency Management or other agencies. The City works directly with other
agencies, including Leon County, the State of Florida and others as needed,
to properly respond to all emergency situations. For more information,
please visit Talgov.com/emergency.
