In my first online DnD game, I ran a paladin. He ended up dying fairly
early defending the rear of the party as they ran from a troll that was
trying to eat our mage. Pet paladins do need to be left off leash from time
to time.

Ozor goes first, but somehow Ahearn is missed (must be
his mother). Ahearn grabs up his sword from the ground and still hits
twice. Sean misses with Alga (who doesn't detect any valuables or sliding
rooms - he will blame the miss on being asked to concentrate on those other
things instead of killing the nasty creature before him). However, Sean
will score a hit with the torch which does some nasty damage and breaks up
Ozor's chanting changing it to screaming.
Hagar, clearly the master warrior, somehow makes a
nearly perfect thrust into Ozor as well. Xander will cast a continual light
onto the ceiling which seems to help.
The continual light must have done the trick. In the
following round, The party again goes first. Ahearn will hit twice, Sean
does more fire damage, and Hagar adds what might be the final thrust. Ozor
falls burning. The flames will consume him unless someone purposely puts
him out.
Beyond him, there is another 25 foot of slightly wider
passage, unlit, but no longer magically dark. Lots of runes, that for some
reason the dice gods say Cara has no problem reading generally thanking
Bune for knowledge and power. There is a heavy stone door cut into the end
of the passage. The runes on the door state, "The master of the runes
concealed here runes of power. Disturbing them will bring maleficence and
insidious death to he who breaks or unseals this door. The prophecy of
destruction will call on legions of the dead and devils"
