Christmas eve 1944, Milan Italy. It was a cold Dec. 24th. The allies had pushed the Germans out of town which made things a little less tense for us as well as mother and father. We knew there would be little if anything under the poorly decorated tree Simme and I had set up but it didn't matter. The allied forces had come and liberated us and that was enough. It was going to be a good Christmas. We had father and mother with us and food was being brought in by the alllied soldiers so we would eat well on Christmas day. If you have nothing but the clothes on your back and yet breath then you have reason to be thankful. Learn from the past and live to enjoy each day. It is a Merry Christmas, whether you want to recognize it or not.
