Subject: [steelers_pb] A few things to look out for....
I always look for spots in the draft where things will turn and everyone has
spoken - correctly - that Houston are a wild card at 3 and Carolina could be a
wild card at 6, especially if they want to trade down for more picks and a QB,
but keep an eye on Seattle at 9. Not so much from the sense of a trade, but
more from the fact that they have been one of the worst drafting teams in the
league this year and John Schneider and Pete Carroll are always going out to
left field with their picks. Don’t be surprised if a name that hasn’t been
mocked to them is the pick here and no one is talking about a QB to Seattle,
which I wouldn’t be surprised by either.
Late buzz for Quay Walker is justified, it sounds like him and Lewis Cine are
now locks for round one.
The Ravens are sitting pretty, they can go in any number of directions and wind
up with a bona fide star for their positions of need. I think that if they end
up with Davis or McDuffie they will be delighted. And they have three picks in
round three and five picks in round four and they can trade them for picks next
year or use them to move up to catch a falling star in round one. Just
incredible. I hate them, but even more so at this time each year because you
know they are going to do very well.
I can’t wait to see where George Pickens goes, of all the receivers in this
draft, he’s the one that will make the most noise - on and off the field.
Looking forward to seeing who the Chiefs pick up at WR. Ditto Green Bay,
hilarity may ensue if the Packers pass on a receiver again in round one.
The Jets and Giants both have two picks in the top ten… and yet I don’t know
who they could pick that would constitute a successful evening for them. They
are both teams you analyse the draft effort in totality for, but all I see is
DB’s and tackles linked to them (especially after they both picked tackles in
the top ten recently, too) and am completely underwhelmed. Maybe it’s just a
bad year to have a top ten pick if you want to find players who can turn your
franchise around quickly, especially when the jury is out on whether your QB’s
can play at this level or not.
When Kyle Hamilton gets selected and they show that interception he made this
past season against Florida State on his highlight real, please remember that
there are probably less than 5 players on the planet who can make that play.
He’s one of them and he’s special.
Matt Araiza is getting all the publicity as the top punter in the draft, but
Jordan Stout and Jake Camarda are also Pro Bowl calibre punters too. Stout may
even be above Araiza on some teams boards.
