Your premise makes sense. Perhaps a natural evolution would be the Terminator 
model. Hell, Schwarzenegger might actually be a Terminator for- all we know!  
When artificial intelligence reaches a level of human- like decision making, 
the hardware will be a piece of cake.The only "problem" will be the lack of a 
soul, which, in humans, drives the mind. Thus no matter how "intelligent" a 
robot becomes, it's motives will always be predicated on logic - unlike humans.
