    Superbug

Today's site, from Wired magazine, offers an attention-grabbing science blog by
author Maryn McKenna. Gentle Subscribers will find the latest coverage of scary
viral conditions currently making news around the world and in the U.S.

"Maryn McKenna is a journalist for national magazines and a Senior Fellow of
the Schuster Institute at Brandeis University. She is the author of Superbug
and Beating Back the Devil, and is writing a book about food for National
Geographic." - from the website

With riveting headlines, Superbug delivers chilling accounts of contagious
health threats. Recent stories have chronicled an instance of Lassa hemorrhagic
fever in a Minnesota traveler, an increase in resistant infections in American
children, and the ongoing concern over avian flu H7N9, which has reemerged in
China. Continuing developments in limiting the use of antibiotics in farm
animal feeds are documented as well, along with the latest reports from the CDC
on hospital use of antibiotics. Not to be overlooked, an article on the success
of fecal transplants to combat C. difficle infections considers the regulatory
bureaucratic issues surrounding its use.
