Revolution: The First 2000 Years of Computing

Today's site, from Silicon Valley's Computer History Museum, presents a stellar
exhibit detailing the evolution of the computer. Gentle Subscribers will
discover the fascinating history and the transformational impact computer
technology has had on ordinary lives.

"The story of computing is epic. It's driven by the human passion for
tinkering, inventing and solving difficult problems where accidents and luck
can be as important as brilliant engineering. Explore the revolution that has
changed our world..." - from the website

With its rich and inextricably intertwined chronology, the presentation's
detailed exposition reveals the underpinnings on which modern computing devices
rest and the people who saw the interconnections and made the creations. With
hundreds of artifacts to illustrate the exhibit, from the early abacus to the
transition to the Internet, topics cover analogue and mainframe computers,
supercomputers and minicomputers, input and output devices, even artificial
intelligence and robotics, to say nothing of games, graphics and music. A
sophisticated Timeline helps place the technological developments in a
comprehensible continuum, replete with linked images and keywords.
