Site of the Day for Friday, April 15, 2011 Recycled Movie Costumes Today's site, originally a spin-off from The Costumer's Guide, focuses on the otherwise untapped sideline of documenting movie and television costumes, primarily from period dramas, which experience multiple outings in a variety of films. Gentle Subscribers, previously unaware of the double and sometimes triple lives led by various costumes, may be surprised to discover their presence in more than one movie or TV series. "Have you ever watched a movie or a television show and seen a character walk by in a gown that you just know you've seen before? No, chances are you aren't just imagining it - there are literally hundreds of great examples of costumes that have been reused and recycled for use in other films." - from the website The presentation, conscientiously updated at frequent intervals, showcases its exhibits categorized by period, from the splendid array of Tudor outfits, to the lavish collection of Edwardian-Victorian designs; there's even a small selection of science fiction costumes. Thumbnail images in the side panel open to larger annotated photos, revealing the origins of each costume, where possible, and the productions in which it was used. In the Accessories section, a decades old Elizabethan headdress, having made its debut in 1967 (Anne of the Thousand Days), has had numerous walk-ons, including a 2008 appearance in the television drama, The Tudors. Submissions from eagle-eyed observers are encouraged. Sashay over to the site for an entertaining stroll through a revolving fancy dress wardrobe at: http://www.recycledmoviecostumes.com/ A.M.
