Today's site, from the American History Museum -- The Smithsonian -- offers an 
informative exhibit commemorating significant events from America's past. 
Gentle Subscribers will discover a noteworthy exhibition celebrating the 
nation's rich history.

"A chronological look at the people, inventions, issues, and events that shape 
the American story, this exhibition showcases more than 100 historic and 
cultural touchstones of American history from the museum's vast holdings, 
supplemented by a few loans." - from the website

This splendidly engaging exhibit welcomes with a sample of artifact images, 
from Kermit the Frog and Dorothy's Ruby Slippers to a Fragment of Plymouth 
Rock, Massachusetts and Benjamin Franklin's Walking Stick. Wonderfully eclectic 
and inclusive, the exhibition presents its items in chronological order, 
beginning with the formation of the country from the colonial era to the post 
revolutionary war period. Each item in a sections leads to further details 
about the artifact, along with general historical information. With five 
categories in all -- Expansion and Reform, Industrial Development, the 
Emergence of Modern America, and the Post War and Contemporary period -- the 
exhibit highlights objects which have come to embody many of the 
characteristics which have defined the U.S. as a nation.
