Store bought vanilla essence is not suitable for cold press soap unfortunately.
Dont worry Pauline i think at some time we have all done this or something
similar. Sometimes you just have to try these things for yourself.

What creates more bubbles and cleansing but less conditioning?

Yes I’ve found Gina to be a fountain of knowledge whenever something goes wrong
– it’s amazing she’s been able to pinpoint things I just didn’t know about.
I’ve only rebatched twice once because I didn’t like the dark purple colour
(which was spotty) - the rebatch looked great and the 2nd time I rebatched with
all my left over scraps – the rebatch turned out really nice and I’m looking
forward to using it.

I had my first seized soap mixture when doing the soap swap batch with
fragrance oils, but amazingly the soap is fine. I didn’t rebatch and my mum
and dad are happily using the soap they like the scent (so they tell me). I
would be a bit suspicious of eos from Bali.

Well, I had similar happenings lately and I have been making soap for a few
years now - and Im pretty sure it is called seizure. It probably wasn't the
palm. Mine I think was caused from the essential oils which smelled divine that
I bought from Bali. The soap once mixed quickly went hard and I just got it in
the moulds. When set the smell was pretty much gone :(( . I spoke to Gina and
she said, the ess oil may have had alcohol in it which very possibly caused the
seizure and also the lack of smell once in soap. I am now looking for a test to
see if the ess oil has got alcohol in it as I bought a bit of this so called
pure essential oil? I have tried to rebatch as well and I don't seem to have
the knack for it either. I often think rebatch has a bit of a funny smell to
it.. Good for washing though - soak in water ( break down first into small
bits) and it turns into a slushy mix - nice for underwear and sheets :)

I have only been soaping since october last year but to answer this question
you/we/I would needd to know all of the context around your experience. If I
have learnt anything, its that there are so many variables and even the same
recipe can do differetn things in different contexts. I have also learnt that
you learn most from your ‘mistakes’ so theres lots of learning coming your
way…☺ so for starters whats your recipe?

My third batch of soap – not good. When I mixed the oil with the lye it
instantly went solid before I could put it into moulds. I think I put too much
Palm oil in. Next day grated half of that batch and reheated it and trickled
in filtered water slowly. Took another 600mls but it looked like and felt like
it had a bad cold (snotty). As it cooled it turned white and was manageable
but now feels sticky. What went wrong?
