Well I hope all is ok there too Ross - and the scary thing is (re your Dad), we'll be there some day! ----- Original Message ----- From: Ross Spencer To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, April 23, 2010 8:15 PM Subject: [soapcraft] Re: Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour Man my father is weird. Finally got him on his mobile (a feat in itself) and asked if anything was OK. Answer was yes he was just on his way home and RIGHT at the end of this conversation he tells me he had to take my mother to hospital Apparently not a big deal (as far as I could get out of him). They are just running some tests From: soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Liz Brook Sent: Friday, 23 April 2010 8:07 p.m. To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [soapcraft] Re: Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour Did you find your parents? Hope all is well. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ross Spencer To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, April 23, 2010 6:17 PM Subject: [soapcraft] Re: Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour I have just cut The Library of Babel and I am a bit disappointed. The colour is a lot paler than I wanted and one particular element of the fragrance blend appears to be dominating. Early days yet. This is one time I do want the soap to darken up! Will try pics tomorrow assuming no dramas - my parents seem to be MIA and trying to find them. I am a little worried Ross From: Ross Spencer [mailto:galahad@xxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Friday, 23 April 2010 6:02 p.m. To: 'soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx' Subject: RE: [soapcraft] Re: Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour I use oxides - black, tan, yellow, red, brown and chromium green oxide The Library of Babel pics - sure. Not sure how the swirl is going to turn out From: soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:soapcraft-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Liz Brook Sent: Friday, 23 April 2010 8:32 a.m. To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [soapcraft] Re: Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour Pleased it worked for you. Do any of you use oxides for colouring? Or are the FD&C's, micas and ultramarines the generally used colours? Can we see pics of the The Library of Babel when you unmould and cut? I want to see if my vision has been realised! Liz ----- Original Message ----- From: Ross Spencer To: soapcraft@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, April 22, 2010 9:50 PM Subject: [soapcraft] Potassium lactate and Gibna's Sky Blue colour Hi all Liz kindly sent me a little bit of potassium lactate to play with. I tried some in a batch last night and have just cut it. I love the texture and the hardness of the soap. Gina, would you consider stocking this as I can't find it anywhere at the moment? The fragrance I soaped was Island Market I used an FD&C orange with a blue swirl using the sky blue colour from Gina. Unfortunately the orange clumped and spotted really badly but the sky blue came out a glorious baby blue (i used a low concentration of colour). I am so happy to have a good blue that doesn't turn purple. I was a little worried to start with as it initially turned a puce green. I will try and get a pic up in Facebook in the weekend. I am not so sure about the scent after soaping it. But will have to wait to see what it is like when finally cured. The raspberry red colour has quite a purple red tone to it so I will still need to stock up on the FD&C 40 for vibrant true red. I used the Amberwood colour swirled through natural in my soaping of The Library of Babel. The soap is still a little soft so I will leave in the mould a bit longer before cutting.
