I forgot this: to get out of Slint and go back to the installer after the last command, just type:
exit
then you can reboot.

Hi Rodney

I don't think you did anything wrong.

It is possible that the firmware of your machine is not set to boot in EFI mode
and/or is set to find an OS loader in c: (/dev/sda in Linux parlance) priority.

To investigate,  you can do this:

1) Boot off the Slint installer again.
2) When you get the prompt, after having logged in as root, instead of choosing
an installation mode type this command:
ls /sys/firmware
Check if in the output there is "efi"
If yes, the machine booted in EFI mode
If no, the machine booted in Bios or Legacy mode.
Please tell us the answer in your next message
Now you can check the GRUB menu that should have been installed, without
rebooting.
To do that, here is the procedure:
Find the root (or system) Slint partition. To do that, type:
lsblk -lno name,fstype|grep ext4
The output will be just one line (two if you asked for an additional partition)
Let's assume the the first or the only one is:
/dev/sdb3 ext4
Then the Slint root partition is /dev/sdb3, else adapt accordingly.
Type the following command to go inside Slint minding that in "-B", the letter B
is a capital.
mount /dev/sdb3 /mnt
mount -B /dev /mnt/dev
mount -B /proc /mnt/proc
mount -B /sys /mnt/sys
chroot /mnt

Now you are inside the Slint system.

From there you can display the GRUB boot menu that should have been displayed at
boot, just typing:
grub-emu
This comes handy as displayed this way it is accessible with speech, but keep in
mind that it's not the "real" boot menu so you can't boot from it.

There should be several boot entries, at least one be labeled Slint (probably
the first one) and one labeled Windows

You can navigate in this menu using the up and down arrow keys.

Take a note of the boot entries and tell us what are their labels in your next
message.

To leave this menu and get back the prompt you need to press 'c' (lower case
letter) then type exit and press Enter.

Anyway, if the GRUB boot menu is not displayed at all when booting, probably the
boot order of the firmware needs to be modified to boot first:
a) the boot entry labeled slint if EFI is enabled
b) else the second hard drive;
To change that you will need a sighted help.

Cheers,
Didier

Thanks for your help.

Not sure what I did wrong.

I went through the installation all seemed to go well.

But when I got to the end and it had me reboot it went directly to windows.

Did not give me the option to boot into slint.

Before I give it another try, was wondering if I forgot something or overlooked something.

The c: drive which is windows is 1 tb and the other drive which I installed slint is 232gb.

Planned giving it another go either tomorrow or Monday.

So any ideas would be appreciated.

Rodney

Hi Rodney

I wouldn't expect any issue.

About sound: just after booting the installer probes the sound boards

and ask if

you want to use each one as it finds it. As soon as you hear that it

asks, just

press Enter, as if you hear the message the sound board works.

Then, choose the Auto mode of installation. The installer will list the

drives

and ask which one you want to use.

At end of installation it will prepare a boot menu including a boot

entry for

Windows, which will be the second one.

Cheers,

Didier
