note: I realized this afternoon that we were observing the 70th anniversary of
thissession. Frank did not think much of "Young At Heart" and was very
reluctant tomake a recording. Jimmy Van Heusen thought it had hit written all
over it. Chesterreminded Frank of his rather faulty judgment through the years.
Citing a number ofsongs Frank passed on including "Mona Lisa." Frank gave in
and the song was a smash hit for him. It took him sometime to warm to it but
eventually he did. "I Could Have Told You" was William B. Williams'
favorite Sinatra recording. I love the chart Riddle wrote for
"Rain." What a perfectionist Sinatra wasback then. He did 27 takes before he
was satisfied with the first song to be recordedthat night.Ed
