Subject: [sinatraphiles] Re: August 4 - THIS DATE IN SINATRA HISTORY
Thanks Ed, I wonder why the advertisement for August 5th doesn't mention
Sinatra or other performers? I will definitely add in the 14th concert. Do
you know if Sinatra was at Radio City Music Hall in the summer of 1948? I
found an article mentioning him rehearsing there but article was from August
4th but no other details. Frank was in Hollywood in July and August of 1948.
He was doing the Hit Parade every Saturday night and beginningon 7/28, he was
at MGM six days a week filming "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." In July, Gene
Kelly had Frank andothers in the film doing extensive rehearsals and Frank was
pre-recording the songs for the film. An air flight across the country took
between 16 and 18 hours in 1948. Ed Scott
Hi Scott, Took me a few minutes because the CD with Frank's
performance has locked in the 8/4 date. But I did find the complete listings for
that evening. Date is definitely 8/5. Here is a bonus you can
use on 8/14.Ed 1948 Symphonies Under The Stars

Note: The Above songs appear on the CD Radio Rarities 1943-1949 VJC 1030-2 I'm
wondering about the date for this. I scoured through L.A. papers and found no
listings for this on August 4th, 1948. Other websites dedicated to Virginia
O'Brien and Edgar Bergen say the event was on August 5th, 1948. Here's the ad
that ran on August 5, 1948 for the Symphonies Under The Stars that night:
Error! Filename not specified. I could find nothing for the August 4th, 1948
date. Scott
