Downbeat: "Frank Sinatra, singer with Tommy Dorsey, will not return from the
coast next winter. This split has been rumored for some time. Sinatra will
continue with Leonard Vannerson, Dorsey's manager, as his handler. The
singer has a Columbia recording contract in view and is set for a good spot
on a commercial radio show. Plans are for him to appear in the two MGM
pictures the band is scheduled to make, possibly staying through TD's run at
the Hollywood Palladium and then go out on his own."

According to a pre-game article, this was the Dorsey team's 8th game. So
far from what I can gather, some of the others were

Before July 7 - Played Harry James, lost 9-8

July 10 - Jimmy Dorsey in Central Park - Tommy's first win 12-10

July 17 - played Johnny Messner's Mud Cats, Central Park

July 31 - re-match with Jimmy Dorsey in Central Park - won 7-5

August 18 - re-match with Bill Friars in Bernardsville. Dorsey again lost,
10-4

NOTE: Ed O'Brien sends us an excerpt from Jack Egan's column in the August
1, 1941 issue of Downbeat:
"Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey finished in that order in the
Martin Block semi-annual WNEW popularity poll. Total of 219,000 votes were
cast.
Tommy won by over 3,000 votes. 4th to 10th were Vaughn Monroe, Benny
Goodman, Sammy Kaye, Artie Shaw, Harry James, Gene Krupa, and Alvino Rey.
