Hi,
Infinite away is usually used as the reference plane to calculate the partial
element comparing the local reference concept for loop element.
Not only MoM, the PEEC- partial element equivalent circuit method also identify
the infinite as the reference plane for partial element extraction.
Thanks.

This is something strictly related to MoM tool like Momentum, EMX, Q3D etc.
They just inject current on pin and they do not need to have any specific
reference...
They are integral equation and compute current on metal... then extrapolate
the wave propagation on medium with Green’s function
These tools compute the partial self inductance, so the reference or return
path is not mandatory for your port
Other tools like HFSS, ADS FEM , CST etc. require a reference since they
apply a differential Wave injection between the signal and its reference
These tools compute the loop inductance

Hi experts,
Sometimes I came across the term "referencing to infinite" in SI
literatures. I wonder what differences would there be between referencing
to infinite and referencing to local ground? Actually I have no idea about
how to set up a port in 3D sim tools which references to infinite...
