If you are just doing point-to-point Ethernet within a box, then you may
be able to use capacitors. The correct way to do it varies depending on
which PHY you are using. Several PHY manufacturers have app notes on how
to connect up their part using just capacitors.=20

If you go out of your box, however, then you will definitely have lots
of issues to deal with, as mentioned earlier.

A transformer does a lot more than DC blocking. It blocks common mode
signals (power / ground noise), matches impedances, provides ground
isolation, blocks lighting surges, and enforces a balanced differential
driver to reduce EMI. It would be VERY DIFFICULT for a capacitor to do
all that. =3D20

Hi , all members of si-list ,
In ethernet connection , we use transformer for DC blocking .
While in audio applications or other high speed links , we use capacit
for DC blocking . Can we use capacitor for DC blocking in ethernet
connection ? Why ? What is the difference between using transformer and
using capacitor for DC blocking ?
I am very appreciated if anyone can give me the answer .
