Hello everyone,
I have been designing products with embedded microcontrollers in the
automotive industry for many years. Up until now the memory has always
been in the chip. Now I have been asked to design a product with
multiple 400 to 600 MHz processors. The memories for these processors
are external DDR1 and DDR2. As you all know it takes a lot of skill to
be successful at these frequencies. I have done a lot of reading to
learn how to do it. The problem is that my management has not joined me
in learning about this new design world. They are having trouble
understanding why I am spending so much time reading. Then there is the
list of capital equipment that I have requested. It is a lot bigger than
they had expected. My direct supervisor has been very supportive.
However my concern is that much of our management does not know what to
expect.

We need someone to provide support to our management and to help them
understand SI technology. It would also be helpful if we could find an
expert to join us for a design review. The problem is that since the
management does not know the technology, they do not know if I am
spending my time wisely or not. It is very difficult for them to know if
I am doing a good job or bad job. If you are a consultant or professor
that may be able to help, please e-mail me.

Best regards,

John
