Hello Doug,

Be careful about implying that a battery keeps a system from having
transients. With high currents and long wires you can get big inductive
spikes. For example, a vehicle has a big battery and also has a long
list of nasty transients.=20

Best regards,

John

Sreekanth,
The best way to do this is to refer to the voltage impulse tables in IEC
60664-1 and determine the impulse rating required for your 1kV working
voltage. Then divide the V/mil rating into that number. =20

Simply dividing the 1000 volts by the V/mil rating of the prepreg is
risky at best because all electrical products experience voltage
impulses unless on a battery supply.

  Hi All,
=20
What could be the rule of thumb while designing a multilayer
board with HighVoltage.
For eg:- If I have 1KV in one layer, what could be the
required
minimum prepeg thickness to the next layer?=20
And what could be the voltage & current carrying capacity
of
FR4 .
=20
 BestRegards,
 Sreekanth N Nampoothiri
