Hello SI Gurus, As I am going through selection of a cable assembly, I found myself lost in the maze of their nomenclature and the tiered product hierarchy. Take for example W.L.Gore. Its website offers a cable assembly builder - a tool to build your own assembly and submit it for a price quote. Even after reading a bunch of their app notes, I still cannot make ends-and-tails. May someone in the group have had a similar experience and could help? W.L.Gore has RF Jumper Cable family of assemblies, which include the so called 195 and 145 cables. The name "145" denotes the outer diameter of 0.145", e.g. They both are rated to 18GHz max freq. I suspect that the reason for this limit is that Gore fits them with the SMA connectors, while the cable has a much higher bandwidth. Another W.L.Gore's cable, G4, from another family of products - called High Density Assemblies - is rated to 52GHz; its outer diameter is 0.12inch. Both cables 145 and G4 seem to use the same dielectric, ePTFE, with the same velocity of 0.85c. Here come my few questions: 1) Is this understanding accurate: that W.L. Gore used the same dielectric in both the lower end Jumper and higher end High Density cable assemblies? 2) Has anyone tried to refit their RF Jumper cable with say 2.92 or 2.4mm connectors? How good is the final assembly? Can you buy the cable from them and have it assembled elsewhere? Where would you take it for assembly for 40-50GHz? 3) What premium - in terms of price % markup, e.g. - should one pay for having a pair of cables delay-matched to say 5ps? 4) How do the cable types 0T, 0D, 0Z map onto / correspond to 145, G4, 89, 53 / 54 / 55, 4L etc. ? Is there such a map? In my limited understanding the first group are the PhaseFlex(R) and the second group are "non-PhaseFlex." Is this correct? Do they share the same dielectrics but differ in the shield construction? 5) In your experience, what is a typical time vendors take to generate a price quote? Thank you.
