[SI-LIST] Re: Outer Shield of coaxial cable

They match pretty well with field solver. The small difference might be from
the dielectric material loss tangent.

For a generic 26ga cable with shield the Total S21 should be about
1.5468dB/m or thereabouts @ 3GHz. So the TOTAL S21 is around 15.4dB @ 3GHz

This figure isn't the shield contribution.

Hi,
I think I exaggerated the loss contributed from outer shield.

I checked the data again. At 3GHz, 10m AWG26 cable has three results:

1.) 3mil outer copper: S21 = -13.6dB
2.) 1mil outer copper: S21 = -14.1dB
3.) 3mil ideal conductor: S21 = -10.4dB

Does it make sense this time?

Regards,
Neo

Neo, if 3 mils of Cu shield thickness is showing up as your dominant
loss, then you are either running at deep sub MHz frequencies, or you
set the problem up incorrectly.

most lossy part of the cable is the shield.
