[SI-LIST] Re: HSPICE Probe at Pin vs Die

Hi Tracy,
The pins exist, the package is valid, and I get reasonable waveforms.  I don't
recall any warnings about the pins.  I'd be happy just to know whether my probe
statement is probing at the die or the pin.  For example, in Hyperlynx or ICX
this is a simple radio button to choose.

I did look through that section of the manual as well.. but I clearly missed
the answer to my question.

I'll forward you the testcase I sent Synopsys in December.  Thanks so much for
your help :)

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

I suspect that you are getting warnings that the pins you are trying to probe
don't exist.  The place to look for information about probing pins when using
.IBIS is chapter 4 of the HSPICE User Guide: Signal Integrity.

Probing pins when you use the .IBIS command with a package model can be a
little tricky.  When you have package=3, the pin names depend on whether or not
[Package Model] is not defined in either the IBIS or PKG files.  If [Package
Model] is not defined then the names depend on [Pin] or [Package] information
(which ever exists).

Without a testcase it's difficult to give you better guidance on this.  Please
send me a testcase so that I can take a look at this.

P.S. I also asked the support center to follow up with you.

Subject: [SI-LIST] HSPICE Probe at Pin vs Die

Hi All,
I am trying to place probes at both the pins and die of my receiver.  I've read
through the manual, and filed support tickets to Synopsys... two weeks later,
no luck.  Any ideas?

Example, where the transmitter is txp/txn, and the receiver is at pins A1/A2 of
reciever.ibs:

...
********************************************************************************
* IBIS Receiver Model
*******************************************************************************
.ibis bcomp1
+ file = 'receiver.ibs'
+ component = 'comp1'
+ package = 3
+ pkgfile = 'package.pkg'
+ mod_sel = 'input = r50gnd'
+ typ = 'typ'
+ nowarn
********************************************************************************
* Transmission Line Connection
********************************************************************************
T3 txp gnd bcomp1_A1_i gnd Z0P TD=0.50n
T4 txn gnd bcomp1_A2_i gnd Z0P TD=0.50n
********************************************************************************
* Plots at Receiver
********************************************************************************
.probe tran rxdiff=V(bcomp1_A1_i,bcomp1_A2_i)
...

Thank you very much,
Joseph
PS I'm also looking for some web-based training.. if anyone knows of a good
class?
