Juan:
I'd like to add more clarification to this..
If you are doing four ports measurements, then you need the reflected,
transmitted(Terminated to the scope function of theTDR, a TDT mode, not a
short)
and termination, for REF and DUT.  If you are looking to to do two port, then
reflected waveforms can be sufficient.
As for open and short, neither is perfect really, since you will have fringing
caps on the end of the open, and can be more important
with higher frequency,as well as the added inductance for the short.  Those are
correctable in VNA by inputting calibration coefficients from Calkit, or
characterized by measuring it.  Those imperfection are not corrected in
IConnect.

Thank you
Elie

Juan:

The question is about the DUT or the reference?
If it is for the DUT, then you need rather termination for S11.
If it is for the reference, then the short needs to be ground and you could use
your math capabilities
to convert it to the waveform you need

Elie

Subject: [SI-LIST] Calculating S-parameters with Tek TDR + Iconnect

Hi
I am using the 80E08 TDR heads to get the differential S-parameters from my
active device. I am just trying to get SD1D1 and  SC1C1

So calculate the S11, Iconnect requires the reference and the DUT.

My question is specific on the reference. It could be an step  coming an
open or a short.

When I drive the diff. pair in odd mode. The reference step for an open is
just the inverse for a short. i.e. Shorting Dp to Dn. (not to GND)

When I drive the diff. pair in even mode. The reference step for an open
seems to be the same as for a short. i.e. Shorting Dp to Dn. (not to GND).

So , the question is, for the case of a SHORT in both the ODD and EVEN
modes, should I short the end of the trace to GND or the short is between
the Dp and Dn

Thanks

Juan
