That all depends on what you put into the channel, and how you evaluate it. If you naively apply random data bounded by the run length of your encoding scheme, then you need to have multiple intervals of your error rate divided by your bit frequency. That's not so bad for 1E-12 as you can get 3.7E13 bits per hour. 1E-15 would however require almost a week just to get 5E15 bits through the channel. This is why people focus on stress patterns rather than just random data. Steve.
