BEEN THERE.........DONE THAT!!!
We USED to live by Donner Lake for many years........at the foot of Donner
Summit.
( think Donner Party ) Snow 6-10 feet deep is average winter. ( Donner
Party...over 20 ft. )
Frank grew his beard when the weather was 29 below.
ALL homes up there are Chalet type.......two stories ......and the snow got up
to the second
story of our home more than once. Hated that...had to shovel to see out of
first story windows.
Used to stand on the front porch and throw snowballs for the dogs to chase.
That was before snowblowers. <G>
They made a trail for us to shovel up to the car.....and they loved it.....and
I loved it.
The dogs loved sledding with the kids as they ran down the hill full bore
alongside the sleds
or toboggans. We used to go out at about nine and sled until about midnight
with lanterns.
When the dogs got tired they would curl up by the sled run like huskies and if
it was snowing
they would sleep as the snow covered them till they were ready to run with
sleds again.
We loved it.
Dogs loved it.
Kids loved it.
We were young.
Kids were young.
Now.....Kids are grown
Grand kids are grown.......they DRIVE up there to go snow boarding on the night
runs.
I am old........Frank's beard is now gray..........and now ONE FOOT is plenty
and we got that
the other night .......so I am done ........and Spring can come
now..................<G>

Carolyn - Please feel free to fly into central Illinois this morning-We
are about to get more of the
real stuff -snow- 8-10 inches with wind. When this happened last year I had
all the dogs in for
19 days. You can have your choice of rotating the family groups out to
potty 4-5 times a day and
standing and watching so they don't step out over the 6 ft fence thru the
drifts that have developed
from snow blowing in the the fields and go into the fields or you can go to
the farm and help my
husband with the calving.- And if we are really lucky we will be able to get
out of my lane and down
the country roads to make to I 55 to go to the Triangle shows. ( did I
mention I have the trophies)

Every year at this time I threaten to move some place where the temp is
  always around 70- sally
