[ SHOWGSD-L ] water baby

We had one with a goat. Ended up doing a c-section to save the mama. She
is doing fine and we hope it never happens again. It was really strange.
Have never had it with puppies.

Sharing a Strange Anomaly
This is a new one....at least it was for me, and I've been at this more
years
than I like to admit. <g>
A friend and I co-bred a bitch....she goes into labor, has three normal
puppies and then quits. My co-breeder is kind of new at this and many hours
(about 12) go by. She takes the bitch in for an X-ray...there are four
more.
C-section time. Here's the unusual part....the reason labor stopped was
because
she had a "water baby" stopping up the works. I had NEVER heard of a dog
"water baby", had you?
Anyway, it was 3 times the size of a normal puppy and filled with fluid.
The bitch could never have delivered it. Happy ending....the 3 remaining
were still alive and at last report, are doing fine.
This has been a strong lesson for me.....had I been whelping the litter,
I would have probably given her a shot of Oxytocin after 4 hours of no more
puppies......and that would have been a disaster.
Proving once again that there's something to learn with each new litter.
We'd be interested to hear if any of you have ever experienced this.
