Respectfully Cynthia, the reason a dog with a DQ should NOT be eligible for
a performance Victor/Victrix award is our mission statement as a club.

"To define precisely and publish definition of the true type, and to urge
the adoption of such types on
breeders, judges, dog show committees, etc., as the only recognized and
unvarying standard by which
the German Shepherd Dog is to be judged, and which may in the future be
uniformly accepted as the
sole standard of excellence in breeding and awarding prizes of merit;"

The qualification for those awards (until last year) were that a dog could
NOT have a breed DQ and be eligible.

On the one hand, how can anyone be a guardian of the breed, recognize the
standard, then say "oh never mind" when it comes to "prizes of merit" at our
 premiere show?

Have you read Dalene's article in the Review? If anyone hasn't, (spoiler
alert), our top prize in OB went to a dog w/ an ILP (PAL now?) #.

For all who are not performance fluent, <and it is crystal clear by their
comments/e-mails when this subject first came up that more than a few on
the board are NOT "performance fluent">, dogs with breed DQs and lately
ILP/PAL dogs COULD ALWAYS earn the AKC awards, it was only our breed prizes
that
had specific qualifications and YES, eligibility was always spelled out on
the premiums. Performance people are wonderfully astute when it comes to
understanding eligibility! They know the rules before entering.

As I and others have mentioned, this arbitrary change was made to increase
entries, to increase membership, to foster the feeling of inclusiveness.

For breeders like myself, who really DO try for dogs that can do it all,
who DO use the standard as a blueprint, this arbitrary decision was a real
slap in the face. Later, the idea that we could be first to offer our very
own "fault class" was laughable.

Now, only time will answer Christine's question/observation, "When you
continue to lower the standard bar, you drive away many who aspire to or have
bred great dogs."

Again, re. whites, my position has always been "all in or all out" and let
the membership decide when it comes to whites. Before voting I would hope
we had a clear understanding of the reaction the SV would have if we
removed the DQ for whites and if, by doing so, the GSDCA would be giving up
our
place on the world stage. IF that would be the case, my position would
change to "all out".

AMEN!! I compete in the performance categories. I have no issues about
being beaten by a white GSD because they ARE a GSD, even at the Nationals
level. They should be just as eligible for Herding/Agility/Obedience
Victor/Victrix as any other GSD if they can do the work.

MY issue is the ILP dogs. I'm happy for them to compete, but as we don't
really KNOW that they are a GSD I don't think they should be eligible for
the 'breed' awards. In this day of designer dogs I don't want a
GSD/Border
Collie cross coming to compete for the Herding Victor title against my
pure
GSD even if the other dog looks enough like a GSD to have gotten an ILP
number. The genetics and working ethics will still be different and NOT a

GSD. My personal opinion is that the top titles should only go to
registered
GSD's regardless of color/type/conformation/ears/testicles or whatever.
As long as they are registered, they are GSD's!

I am not and can never be color blind when it comes to German Shepherd
Dogs. IF THEY HAVE THE BRAIN OF A GERMAN SHEPHERD, I WILL LOVE THEM.
I can not help myself. I love beyond color in both dogs and people. I
love the character of the German Shepherd Dog and look beyond the coat
color. I will judge
to the Standard as I am obliged to do, but I will not condemn any GSD
because someone says they are the wrong color, as longs as they have the
mind of a GSD!
Long live all German Shepherd Dogs!!!!!!!
