The only caveat is that there is a minimum speed each animal has or is
necessary to use all of there capability(angulation and structure) all breed
rings can equalize that by restricting the better animal to a confined space(e
g. Westminster breed ring)

Kathy and Mike are both correct. To some judges speed is the do all-end all.
For the
really competent judge it is irrelevant. When I mentor, I mark off between
posts or
ring markers and have the person count the number of times the dog's left foot
hits the ground.
It is a great way to show a person how to become aware of the "fewer steps to
cover the ground"
concept in our standard. This works even in the AB ring. But then, perhaps
I have forgotten
that our standard doesn't seem to mean much anymore. sigh

speed is not a factor in this example, the tape does not lie, a given dog
can only be so effiecient The inferior animal will take more steps
regardlessof speed Now for judging purposes I agree, we can not SEE how well
they move at Mach 1. The aforementioned 100 foot tape will remove all
doubtBut speed IS relevant Mike. Because the racers, the fliers, 90 percent
of them have "the wheels come off" whenyou get them slow and loose. Speed
