Sue, This term is used for example by Curtis M. Brown in his book "DOG LOCOMOTION AND GAIT ANALYSIS" This is a great book but can be highly technical for us. On page 27 of his book there is the drawing of a skeleton with each bone identified. Brown was an honor graduate of the University of California. Brown taught engineering classes at San Diego and Purdue Universities and was fascinated with the locomotion of all kinds of animals. He was a frequent contributor to the Kennel Review, & National Dog (Australia) His book "THE ART AND SCIENCE OF JUDGING DOGS" is also a good one for which he received awards.
