NH HB0142 - Breeder license and health certificates
This bill introduced in New Hampshire requires out of state breeders to get a
NH license in order to sell dogs/cats in NH and the animals must be
accompanied by a health certificate.
Even if you don't live in NH, this will impact you if you want to sell a pup
to someone who lives there.

Well said Jennifer. And to add to that, I believe this is one more
nail in the 'small breeder' coffin. As small breeders we not only
are competing with Mr. Hunte and the like at your local pet store
but we are also competing with the 'consortium' of the handler/
breeders who also breed in very large numbers. There is not much
market for the small breeder any more.

I've been reading some of these posts and personally think the ideas =20
of raising puppies of any breed in a mass-production type system is =20
deplorable. I'm sure the industrial/corporate kennels are approved =20
by USDA standards and are maintained well. I've seen the local =20
Petland stores and their dogs/pups and what it boils down to, in my =20
opinion, is setting the stage for more $sales$.
You all know there are buyers who want a puppy NOW, they don't want =20
to be bothered with going through the time & effort of finding & =20
being questioned by a responsible breeder, or the inquisition so many =20
shelters put adopters through. Pet stores offer instant dogs - any =20
breed, any time, no questions asked, and charge cards accepted.
I also think some puppy buyers are trying to be a bit of an educated =20
consumer, and wants an AKC registered dog and that can maybe look at =20
an AKC pedigree & see some titles and equate that with something =20
special (they've seen the Eukanuba or Westminster show on TV and =20
heard the hype about Champions, etc). They may not know what the all =20
the titles mean, but they're official, so that must mean something.
If what Mr. Hunte is doing is bringing in a Ch GSD bloodlines to his =20
stock - one shown by what many consider to be the top AKC handler no =20
less, joining the GSDCA - then, to me, he's just getting smarter & =20
better at his marketing plan. Imagine the sales pitch that will go =20
along with those puppies! Eventually you can try arguing with =20
someone not "in" dogs about why not to buy a dog from a petstore, and =20
now they can throw back in your face "but they're Ch. lines - just =20
like YOUR dogs!". JMO-

As a professional dog trainer I tell every person who seeks my help with a pet
shop dog where they dog came from.
I tell them that "we have this dog, we love this dog. But don't go there
again because of mills and millers." I most often get a horrified look and a
promise that they will either adopt or buy from a breeder next time.
That is all that can be done. The dog purchased from a mill/pet shop is still
an animal worthy of our love, now that it is here.
