I had one too many back in '78. I, too, followed the recommendations of those 
in charge who were supposed to know the facts. I took the vaccinations because 
I had contact with a dog that had a seizure and died a few minutes later. So as 
employees of the city/state, we were told to get to the health dept and start 
our Rabies vaccs. The first test on the animal was a false positive so we were 
told to continue our injections. Everyone else got a good response from the 
shots. My immune system failed to mount an 'appropriate' response so I was 
'told' I had to have a double dose. Within days, what happened to me eventually 
put me in the hospital and I now understand what the animals go through when 
they get Rabies. I wouldn't wish it on any of them, let alone any person. I was 
one in 60,000 who had an adverse reaction...I had neuro rabies and will suffer 
from this for the rest of my life. So....I am a proponent of NOT just following 
the suggestions of others unless I research first all I can find on the subject 
and then...I still base my decisions on gut instinct...the same gut that I 
should have paid attention to when the hair on the back of my neck stood up 
when the doctor informed me he had just injected me with a double dose of 
rabies virus vaccination. I can well imagine why some of the animals who have 
gotten the vaccine become different animals when that line is crossed in their 
own system. Our dogs depend on us to protect them. Please people, research and 
do the right thing by your animals. They deserve no less.
