[ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: shots

I stopped giving the booster shots to my adults a number of years ago when I
started to hear on several lists to which I subscribe, that we were over
vaccinating. I heard this not only from breeders, but vets as well. My
dogs are tested for heartworm each spring and they get the state required
rabies vaccination(under protest because many believe that they are not
needed every three years) . After the puppies have had their series of
puppy shots, that is it for me. So far, my dogs have lived long and healthy
lives for the most part. I have an 11 year old now that is still pretty
lively and has days when he acts like a puppy, shaking his toys or grabbing
a pillow from my couch to make me run after him. I consider myself lucky to
have had his company for those years. He sleeps on my bed at night--can
still jump up on it,--and takes over my couch during the day when he is not
outside, barking at my younger(eight year old) boy whom he hates with
passion.
