Vaccines sometimes do not overcome "passive" maternal immunity. (Passive
immunity is what the mother passes to the pups) Active immunity is what the pup
attains himself, usually thru shots, but sometimes by having the disease
itself). The mother's passive immunity in the pups is functioning, and
reacts
to the vaccine as if is the disease, and destroys the vaccine itself. As the
maternal immunity weakens, the vaccines are not destroyed, but confer "active"
immunity to the pups. We have found that Intervet's Progard parvo vaccine
overrides maternal immunity, and gives the pups active immunity very early on,
frequently on the first shot. There IS a difference in the vaccines. Shalom,
